This course builds on skills covered in Sculpture Techniques 1 and introduces some new techniques and processes.

You will make two sculptures; a Human Torso sculpture, modelled in clay and cast in plaster and a freestanding Carved Sculpture worked from a modelled wax maquette.

You will learn how to make a two piece waste mould, the process of carving and a variety of colouring and finishing techniques.

Direct plaster sculpture has a long history in western sculpture and is often associated with artists of the modernist period. It's one of the most freely creative and immediate sculpture techniques. 

On this workshop you'll design and construct an armature, learn the techniques of working direct with plaster of Paris, how to mix plaster and the about the tools and equipment for direct before moving on to  colouring & finishing your sculpture.

On this course you will complete two projects; Firstly, you'll explore the the creative potential of working with Natural 'Roman' Cement. Followed by working with Modelling Wax over a flexible armature.

 

Natural cements are an environmentally friendly material that are often used in sculpture to create durable casts, or worked direct over an armature.

On this workshop you will have a go at both casting and direct working and modelling, developing an understanding of the advantages and limitations of the both materials.

Natural Cement Sculpture

This workshop introduces the creative potential of working with natural, Roman  cement for casting and direct working.

Natural cements are an environmentally friendly material that are often used in sculpture to create durable casts, or worked direct over an armature.

On this workshop you will have a go at both casting and direct working, developing an understanding of the advantages and limitations of the natural cement and it's creative possibilities.

On this course you will be introduced to a range of sculpture materials and processes.

You will make two sculptures; a Relief Sculpture modelled in clay and cast in plaster and a freestanding Abstract Sculpture using the direct plaster method.

You will learn how to make simple waste moulds and casts, how to make armatures for sculpture and how to work directly using plaster of Paris.

Additional Information

  • All courses are suitable for beginners to more experienced practitioners. 

  • When you enrol you will be asked to pay a £50 deposit to secure your place. Deposit is refundable if the course or workshops is cancelled.

  • All materials equipment and PPE are provided including aprons, however you are welcome to bring your own.

  • You will probably find it useful to bring your own notebook and camera/mobile phone.

  • Hot drinks and snacks are provided, but do bring your own if you prefer.

  • The studio/classroom is on the second floor of an old building, sadly there is no lift.

  • There is plenty of on-site parking.
